Basic chronology for youth who have received tickets:
A youth receives a ticket for a Class C misdemeanor offense, then:

·  goes to Municipal or Justice Court and enters a plea of guilty or nolo contendre,

·   requests deferral to Midland Teen Court,

·   pays court costs and fees,

·   contacts the Teen Court office and enrolls in Teen Court,

·   schedules and attends an office conference with a parent (for all except traffic cases),

·   appears before a teen jury at Midland Teen Court and receives a “constructive sentence” of community service and jury duty,

·   works the assigned 5 to 50 hours community service for a non profit or governmental agency and turns in the documented hours to the Teen Court office before the assigned completion date,

·   serves the 1 to 5 required evenings of jury duty,

·   attends any required Teen Court classes (Chemical Awareness, Educational Seminars, and/or traffic education),

·   completes any other requirements such as a letter of apology, essay, etc.

·   turns in all requirements to the Midland Teen Court Office,

·  returns the certificate of completion issued by the Midland Teen Court Office, along with any other set requirements, back to the referring court within the 90-day deferral period so that the citation will be dismissed with prejudice.
