September is National Youth Court Month

2006 National Youth Court Month Activities

In celebration of  National Youth Court Month, Midland Teen Court will hold various regular and special events to help promote the importance of Teen Court's system of restorative justice:

Teen Court sessions will be held on September 11th, 18th, and 25th, with check-in at 5:00 p.m. at the Midland County Courthouse, 200 West Wall.  Everyone enters through security in the west basement of the Courthouse.  All persons must dress appropriately for the court in neat, conservative clothes:  long pants or skirts/dresses, shirts tucked into the waist of the trousers. Electronics must be "off" in the courtroom.

The fall Teen Attorney Training will be held September 6th. Interested students must serve at least two jury evenings prior to training, visit with the Executive Director, and turn in a signed parental consent/information form by September 1st to attend this training to be a teen attorney. Training will be held at the Midland ISD Administration Building, 615 W. Missouri, Room 101 from 4:15 to 6:30 p.m.

Teen Court traffic education classes, (all youth with traffic citations referred to Midland Teen Court must attend one session or a written alternative, if there is a school related conflict) will be held on September 7th, 14th, and 21st, from 4:15 to 5:00 p.m. All traffic classes are held at the Midland ISD Administration Building, 615 W. Missouri, Room #226.

Midland Teen Court will present an  Educational Seminar on Triggers on September 20, 2006. Each month a new topic-specific subject will be introduced in a seminar-style setting for students. All youth are are encouraged to attend these education seminars, both those with a case before Teen Court and volunteer jurors or teen attorneys. Interested students MUST register with the Midland Teen Court office prior to the class date: supplies, snacks & space are limited. Monthly seminars are on scheduled dates from 4:30 to 6:20 p.m. in the Midland ISD Administration Building, 615 West Missouri, Room 101.Please contact the Teen Court office for further details (689-1065).

In conjunction with National Youth Court Month, Midland Teen Court will host a breakfast Celebrating 20 Years of Service  on Thursday, September 28, 7:30 – 8:30a.m. in Room 420 of the Midland Independent School District Administration Building, 615 W. Missouri.  Special guests include volunteers and donors for Midland Teen Court, including judges, deputies, teen attorneys, current and past members of the Teen Court Board of Directors, County Commissioners, Members of Midland City Council, and Midland ISD Board of Trustees, donors, etc. Justin Stephenson is the 2006 National Youth Court Hall of Honor Inductee from Midland.
